August 2008 marks the beginning of a new era in select baseball in the D/FW Metroplex as well as the entire North Texas region. The Dallas Mustangs and D-BAT of Dallas are merging their select baseball team operations to form the D-BAT Mustangs Baseball Club. This new organization will be led by Sam Carpenter of the Dallas Mustangs, Cade Griffis of D-BAT, and Shayne Currin, formerly of the McKinney Marshals. The purpose of the merger is to create a platform for high school and youth aged baseball players to develop their natural talents within a team concept while exhibiting their skills to college coaches and professional scouts in an effort to continue playing baseball beyond high school. The concept is loosely based on the highly regarded East Cobb Baseball Club based in the Atlanta, GA area.

The D-BAT Mustangs Baseball Club will begin operations on September 1, 2008. Tryouts for 2009 teams will begin in November 2008.

Mustangs Win National Qualifier  and

Break the Curse on the Black Jersey

After a tough 0-1-1 start in Saturday pool play and losing a player to injury, the Mustangs battled back to clinch the Championship with solid championship play on Sunday.

After a disappointing loss to the Coppell Crush, Troy Davern and Zack Shepherd finished off Saturday pool play with a combined 6 solid innings on the hill that ended with a 2-2 tie with the McKinney Marshals.

Championship play began on Sunday morning with the Mustangs scheduled to face the Marshals again for a rematch of Saturday's nail-biter.  Zack Shepherd pitched 5 shutout innings in route to a 7-0 victory over the Marshals while Josh Aguilar came in to close the door in the 6th and seal the victory.  Brice Wood went 3-3 with two singles and a double and Brandon Hammontree and Will Guzman both connected for triples on balls to the wall.

The bats were on fire Sunday as the Mustangs continued on to beat the Southlake Black Dragons 6-5 in a close game that came down to some clutch hitching by the Mustangs in the last inning.  John 'Peanut' Guzman drove in 2 runs with 2 outs in the 5th inning to give the Mustangs the go ahead run. Aidan Hunt and Caden Miller kept the Mustangs in the game with solid pitching through 5 and Josh Aguilar came in to put the last 3 outs in the book.

The Mustangs went on to face the #8 seed Texas Colts in the championship game that evening.  Justin 'J.B.' Garrett led off the game with a laser to the right-center gap for an inside-the-park homerun before the tournament was called in the first inning due to inclement weather.

Congratulations to the entire team who backed up the pitching staff with the solid defense and excellent hitting needed to bring home the hardware!

The Mustangs tied for second and receive tournmanet birth in the Triple Crown Metroplex Season opener in Coppell.

The Mustangs went 2-0 in pool play and went into championship play as the #3 seed. The Mustangs began Sunday with a 13-7 victory over the Southlake Green Dragons and went on to face the Texas Rebels for semi-final play.  The Mustangs were down 8-6 in the 5th inning with a runner on second and the 3, 4, and 5 hitters coming up when the tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather. However, due to solid play through the first 3 games, the Mustangs tied for second in seeding and received a birth to this summer's national tournament in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
